Project Portraits, Tidak Masalah, Bali 2019

  • Not many Indonesian children understand the concept of dreams as a goal to be achieved. The struggle to realize these dreams is not commonly supported by parents, who often only encourage their children to study hard and excel academically. Consequently, the idea of having a dream that positively impacts society remains rare and is often overshadowed by the fear of failure.

The Tidak Masalah project emerged to bridge this gap, creating avenues for communication that empower children to establish dreams and objectives for both their personal lives and the broader community. Through the mediums of art and theatre, this initiative encourages young individuals to explore their aspirations without the constraints of fear or societal expectations. In doing so, it nurtures a generation capable of envisioning a brighter future, fostering not just personal growth, but also a collective advancement for society.

  • For this project, I was tasked with capturing genuine moments of the children and musicians involved in the graduation festival. Each photograph aimed to encapsulate the joy, excitement, and nerves of this significant milestone. The candid shots showcase the pure emotions of the children as they engaged with their peers, teachers, and family members.

This event held particular importance as it marked a first-time experience for many of the children being photographed. The images reflect their spontaneity and innocence, offering a glimpse into their personalities and emotions during this unforgettable occasion. The musicians, too, contributed to the vibrant atmosphere, and their participation enhanced the celebratory nature of the event. Each photograph serves as a treasured memory of this special day, preserving the essence of childhood and creativity.
